Venture Capital Firms Seek Bangladeshi Tax Holidays

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

Venture capital and private equity firms in Bangladesh have called for corporate tax breaks to support investments in new businesses.

Speaking at a press briefing on June 11, the President of the Venture Capital and Private Equity Association of Bangladesh (VCPEAB), Shameem Ahsan, called for a 10-year corporate tax exemption on such investments, stressing the risky nature of investing in new firms and the relatively long period before returns are seen.

However, he welcomed the decision to retain the exemption for alternative investment funds in the recent budget.
