UK Updates VAT Return Filing Guidance

by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

13 November 2015

The UK tax authority, HM Revenue and Customs, has updated its guide that is intended to assist businesses preparing their value-added tax (VAT) returns.

VAT Notice 700/12: how to fill in and submit your VAT Return was last updated in August 2014. An updated version was released on November 12, 2015, in particular to update Paragraph 5.3.2 to show that businesses can no longer pay VAT using the BillPay service.

The guide provides an overview of common value-added tax terms and discusses how to fill in each box in the UK return. It then discusses how to submit a return, how to make payment, and how to make subsequent corrections.
