UK Entrepreneurs Hope For Corporate Tax Cuts

by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

The next UK Government should prioritize corporate tax cuts, according to a survey of entrepreneurs by professional services group EY.

EY surveyed 150 entrepreneurial business leaders across the UK and asked them to select the areas that they believe the next government should prioritize. 21 percent of respondents placed a reduction in the levels of corporation tax at the top of their wish list. 14 percent ranked an extension to tax relief measures as the second-most important issue. Others called for infrastructure investment, and increased funding for apprenticeship and re-skilling schemes.

Stuart Watson, EY's Entrepreneur of The Year UK Leader, commented: "Dynamic entrepreneurs create jobs and rapid economic growth. Creating a supportive environment that helps them fulfill their vision can only create more confidence in the market and strengthen our economy."

Conservative Chancellor George Osborne has slashed the headline corporation tax rate from 28 percent to 20 percent in his five years at the Treasury. He has also promised a review of business rates (property tax). The Labour Party, which is the main challenger to the leading Conservative Party in the upcoming elections, has said that it would scrap a planned one percent cut in the corporation tax rate and reduce and then freeze business rates.
