Turkey-Pakistan Free Trade Talks Near Conclusion

by Lorys Charalambous, Tax-News.com, Cyprus

07 September 2016

Pakistan and Turkey are close to sealing a bilateral free trade agreement following the latest round of negotiations, which took place in Islamabad from August 29-31.

It is understood that both sides have agreed to eliminate 85 percent of tariffs on trade between the two countries, and that they have committed to addressing outstanding issues by the end of this year, paving the way for the agreement to be signed.

It is believed that, through FTA tariff reductions, Pakistan and Turkey can boost their bilateral trade, which stood at just below USD700m in 2015, to USD3bn within two years and to USD10bn thereafter.
