Thailand and Turkey have announced that they will begin talks towards a free trade deal, after the completion of a feasibility study by both sides.

At a press conference on July 19, it was said that a deal could double trade flows between the two countries within three years of the tariff reductions included in such a deal entered into force.

According to information published by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bilateral trade flows were worth USD1.5bn in 2014, after increasing eight fold since 2002. Turkey's exports were worth USD210m, while Thai exports were worth USD1.27 billion. 32 Turkish companies have operations in Thailand while 15 Thai companies operate in Turkey.
