Switzerland To Refund Unlawful VAT On TV Fees

by Ulrika Lomas, Tax-News.com, Brussels

29 April 2019

The Swiss Federal Council is consulting on proposals for the refund of the VAT on the reception fee for TV and radio.

Switzerland's Federal Supreme Court has ruled that the reception fee is not subject to VAT. As a result, the federal Government is required to repay the VAT collected on the fee between 2010 and 2015.

The Federal Council has proposed a refund of CHF50 for each household. The refund will be made by way of a credit on an invoice issued by the fee collection agency Serafe.

A consultation on the proposed refund amount was launched on April 17. It will close on August 5.
