Switzerland Approves BEPS Amendments To UK DTA

The Swiss Federal Council has adopted a dispatch approving a new protocol to the double tax agreement with the UK.
The protocol to the 1977 DTA was signed in November 2017.
The protocol brings the agreement into line with the minimum treaty standards defined as a result of the OECD's base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) project. The protocol introduces a new anti-abuse clause into the DTA.
The BEPS amendments were agreed bilaterally by Switzerland and the UK, as opposed to being implemented automatically via the OECD's anti-treaty abuse convention.
The dispatch has been sent to the Swiss Parliament.
