Singapore To Increase Airport Departure Tax

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

01 August 2012

Singapore’s Changi Airport Group (CAG) has announced that the passenger service charge (PSC) payable by all passengers departing from the airport will be increased to SGD19.90 (USD16.00) from SGD13.90, with effect from April 1, 2013.

It has been decided that the SGD6.00 PSC increase will apply to all air tickets purchased on or after November 1, 2012, for travel on or after April 1 next year, and that its rise will enable Changi airport to cover increased operating costs, and to make new investments to boost its capacity and allow for the expected rise in passenger numbers.

CAG has disclosed that it has allowed for a total investment of SGD2bn during the next five years for the airport's improvement and expansion programme.

It has been confirmed that Changi Airport’s passenger security service charge (PSSC) of SGD8 will be unchanged. Together with the aviation levy of SGD6.10, departing passengers will therefore, for flights after April 1, 2013, pay total charges of SGD34 (from SGD28 currently).

The PSC and PSSC for transfer and transit passengers, of SGD9 and SGD3 respectively, will stay the same for the time being.
