Schipol Recognized For Excellence

by Ulrika Lomas,, Brussels

08 July 2011

Amsterdam aviation hub Schiphol Airport has been recognized as the leading European airport among those serving more than 25 million passengers annually by the Airports Council International, Europe (ACI Europe).

Based in Brussels, ACI Europe represents over 400 airports in 46 European countries. The Association's membership handles 90% of commercial air traffic in Europe.

The Award was received by Ad Rutten, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer at Schiphol Group at the 21st ACI Europe Annual General Assembly. Nominations were evaluated by a jury of independent experts. According to the jury's report, Schiphol is a model in terms of efficiency, facilities offered, continuous infrastructure development and attention to the environment. The Schiphol Group also won the award back in 2009.

Welcoming the award, Group CEO, Jos Nijhuis, commented: "We are proud to receive such recognition. It underscores our ambition to be and remain 'Europe's preferred airport'. Schiphol connects the Netherlands with the rest of the world and the way in which we do this has now been acknowledged by this jury."
