SARS Issues 2016/17 Income Tax Guide

by Lorys Charalambous, Tax-News.com, Cyprus

02 August 2017

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has published a new income tax guide for South African residents.

The guide is said to aim to provide clarity on the majority of issues that individuals may have in practice in meeting their income tax commitments for the 2017 year of assessment. It gives guidance on obligations arising under the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962, including amendments effected by the Taxation Laws Amendment Act 15 of 2016, as well as the Rates and Monetary Amounts and Amendment of Revenue Laws Act 13 of 2016, which were promulgated on January 19, 2017.

SARS noted that the guide is not technically an "official publication" as defined in section 1 of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011 and should not be used as a legal reference.
