Uruguay and Romania have signed a social security agreement, marking the first such agreement that the Uruguayan Government has concluded with a nation in Eastern Europe.
The social security agreement was signed by Uruguay's Minister for Labor and Social Security Ernesto Murro, and Romania's Minister of Labor and Social Justice Lia Olguta in Montevideo on September 13. Additional agreements on administrative and technical cooperation were signed at the same time.
Under the agreement, social security and state pension entitlement are protected for workers in one signatory country working in the other.
Murro said the agreement, which is also the first such agreement Romania has signed with a country in Latin America, "can open doors to further expand bilateral social security agreements with other countries."
