Pakistan Seeks Tax Enforcement Help From Big Business

Pakistan's Federal Board of Revenue has launched a campaign to improve taxpayer compliance rates, with large organizations in the country being asked to ensure their employees report their income.

Representatives from the FBR's Facilitation and Taxpayers Education (FATE) operation have visited the offices of a number of large organizations in Islamabad as part of the compliance initiative, launched on September 13.

According to the tax authority, assistance is being sought from more than 50 large corporations, financial institutions, and companies headquartered in the country, as "a majority of their employees with taxable income are failing to fulfill a national obligation by not filing their income tax returns."

The tax authority said that although the companies are reporting taxes withheld and salaries paid, many workers are failing to file tax returns. It has offered to run sessions to support taxpayers to fulfill their tax obligations.
