On April 9, 2020, the OECD released an update to a spreadsheet hosted on its website that maps out all the various tax policy responses countries have taken to support individual and corporate taxpayers following the outbreak of COVID-19.
The first version of this spreadsheet – the COVID-19 tax policy and other measures "toolkit" – included measures that had been announced up until March 23, 2020. This was updated last on April 1, 2020.
The spreadsheet highlights that countries have responded to the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic with various measures, including:
- Extending tax payment and filing deadlines;
- Allowing taxpayers to defer payment;
- Remitting penalties and interest;
- Suspending debt recovery;
- Expediting refunds;
- Providing tax certainty;
- Relaxing audit and other enforcement policies;
- Enhancing services, including e-filing options; and
- Releasing guidance for taxpayers.
