OECD In Asia, Latin America To Talk BEPS

by Ulrika Lomas, Tax-news.com, Brussels

11 March 2014

As part of its project on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) held two regional consultations in Asia, on February 20-21, and in Latin America, on February 27-28.

The meetings come as part of a series of four regional consultations to be held ahead of the Global Forum on Transfer Pricing, and the Task Force on Tax and Development, scheduled for later this month.

The consultations focused on base erosion in developing countries, and considered changes. Input will be considered in the OECD's subsequent work, and by the G20 Development Working Group on the impact of BEPS issues in developing countries.

Following on from the Asia and Latin America meetings, a further two meetings are scheduled:

  • In Africa, as part of a consultation organized by the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) in Pretoria, on March 18-19; and
  • With the Francophone countries, in an event jointly hosted by the OECD and the CREDAF (Centre de rencontres et d'études des dirigeants des administrations fiscales), which will take place on March 25 in Paris.

Each meeting is due to deliver "outcomes," such as: key messages; BEPS issues identified as important in the region; specific challenges faced by developing countries; and proposed mechanisms for the BEPS dialogue. At the Asia meeting, participants also discussed shared approaches to dealing with BEPS.
