Nigeria Introduces e-Tax Payment

by Lorys Charalambous, Tax-News.com, Cyprus

05 March 2015

In a bid to simplify and ease the tax payment process, and following its introduction of e-filing for certain tax returns late last year, Nigeria's Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has now also launched online tax payments.

Both the e-filing and online payment platforms were developed under the Integrated Tax Administration System Project that FIRS launched a few years ago to automate administration.

Through the new online arrangement, individual or corporate taxpayers can pay taxes to FIRS through the online banking facilities provided by any Nigerian commercial bank. FIRS hopes that online filing and tax payment will improve voluntary tax compliance rates.
