NetJets Promotes Global 6000 Offering

by Mike Godfrey, Tax-News.com, Washington

12 October 2012

NetJets has announced the launch of a world tour to key markets to drum up interest in its latest fractional ownership offering as the launch customer of Bombardier's Global 6000 long range aircraft.

The jet, which has been customized for Netjets to carry fourteen passengers, has a range of 13 hours, cutting passed-on operating costs and flight times to long-haul destinations. With the roll-out of the aircraft, NetJets Europe has announced that the Global 6000 will open up new routes to India, Kazakhstan, China, Africa, the Middle East, and Brazil.

A sixteenth share in a Global 6000 aircraft will cost USD3.1m, entitling the purchaser to 50 hours of use per year. This compares favourably to the Global 6000 list price of USD58.5m. Having received a first aircraft in January 2012, Netjets expects to have at least three Global 6000 jets operational by February 1, 2013, when the company will begin commercial operations with the aircraft.

In the largest private aviation deal in history at the time, Netjets signed an agreement with Bombardier worth USD6.7bn to expand its fleet of over 800 by 120 aircraft. The deal includes firm orders for a total of 50 Global family aircraft with options for a further 70. Bombardier will deliver a total of 30 Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft in the near term before delivering 20 extended-range Global 7000s and 8000s starting in 2017. Netjets is also to receive Challenger 300 Series aircraft from Bombardier from 2014, and Challenger 605 aircraft from 2015, under another record-breaking deal concluded earlier in 2012, worth USD9.6bn.

Bombardier’s Global 5000, Global 6000, Global 7000 and Global 8000 jets are designed to feature superior speed, cabin volume, range and technology, to enable improved connectivity for the business community to emerging markets from Europe and North America, and vice versa.
