Mexico Announces Duties On Chinese Cookware Imports

by Mike Godfrey, Tax-News.com, Washington

23 December 2015

The Mexican Government on December 21, 2015, announced that it will provisionally apply countervailing duties on Chinese imports of aluminum cookware from China.

An investigation into Chinese imports was launched on April 15, 2015, at the request of Grupo Vasconia, SAB. The company had alleged that Chinese aluminum cookware was entering the Mexican market at prices that were lower than Chinese market prices – a practice known as "dumping."

The investigation covered the period between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2014.

The Secretariat of Economy said that there is sufficient evidence to support Grupo Vasconia's complaint. It determined dumping margins of between USD3.74 and USD4.10 per kilogram. It also said that, during the period, imports of aluminum cookware from China increased by 22 percent and Chinese importers' share of the domestic market increased by 14 percent.

The Secretariat announced that it has decided to apply provisional anti-dumping duties on imports of aluminum cookware at a rate of USD3.74 per kilogram for Chinese manufacturer Sanhe and USD4.10 for all other Chinese exporters, regardless of the country of origin.
