Mexican MPs Reject Tax Cut For Fuel

by Glen Shapiro, Tax-News.com, Washington

Mexico's Chamber of Deputies has rejected a proposal to reduce the tax on gasoline and diesel by 50 percent.

According to reports, 36 deputies voted in favor of the a popular initiative to halve the tax burden, while 50 voted against.

The cut to the special tax on production and services, IEPS, had been championed by the National Action Party and various campaign groups but had been rejected due to concerns that revenue collections would fall too greatly.
