The Mercosur nations – Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay – have signed a Free Trade Agreement with the Palestine Authority, aimed at establishing commercial ties and boosting cooperation.
Presently, Argentina is the only nation with existing trade arrangements with the Palestine Authority, with sizeable exports worth USD1.7bn in 2010, but which have declined in past years.
The agreement, which was the subject of a one-year negotiation, was signed by the Palestine Authority's Minister for Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al Maliki and Mercosur trade ministers on December 20, 2011, in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.
