Malaysia Looking At Modernizing Road Tax

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

20 July 2017

Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai revealed on July 19 that the Government is considering introducing a more modern, innovative way of levying road tax.

The Minister was speaking following the signing of a collaboration agreement between Atilze Digital and U Mobile on the development of technology to track mileage and whether a driver takes inappropriate risks.

He told reporters that reform of the road tax system to benefit prudent drivers would likely not be made in the near term but expressed confidence that technological advances would permit this "in the future".
