Madagascar Planning Special Economic Zones

by Lorys Charalambous,, Cyprus

05 May 2015

The Prime Minister of Madagascar, Jean Ravelonarivo, is seeking Mauritian expertise to set up special economic zones in the territory.

In talks with his Mauritian counterpart, Ravelonarivo expressed interest in cooperating with Mauritius in various sectors. In particular, he said he would like to tap Mauritian expertise on setting up the required infrastructure to form the zones.

Special economic zones offer various tax concessions and other incentives, and are typically home to a broader range of activities than industrial free zones.
