Liechtenstein Confirms VAT Rate Cuts

by Ulrika Lomas, Tax-News.com, Brussels

06 October 2017

The Government of Liechtenstein has announced that the standard rate of value-added tax and the special rate on accommodation will be reduced in 2018.

At its meeting of October 3, 2017, the Government adopted the report and proposal on the amendment of the VAT Act, which will see the standard rate fall to 7.7 percent from eight percent and the reduced rate on accommodation fall by 0.1 percent to 3.7 percent. There will be no changes to the reduced rate of 2.5 percent.

The VAT cuts mirror those taking place in Switzerland, as Liechtenstein has effectively adopted Swiss VAT legislation, albeit with its own system of VAT administration.

The changes are due to have effect from January 1, 2018.
