Kenya Introduces Online-Only Tax Return Filing

by Lorys Charalambous, Tax-News.com, Cyprus

03 August 2015

In a recent public notice, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced that it will only accept e-filed value-added tax, pay-as-you-earn, and income tax returns from August 1, 2015.

The KRA's iTax platform is an online secure application system that was first piloted two years ago and commissioned in mid-2014. More than two million taxpayers are currently registered to use the system.

Apart from the administration of tax returns, the KRA has migrated various services to the platform, including updating tax registration details, making payments, and the filing and processing of VAT refunds.
