Jordan To Impose Late Filing Penalty

by Lorys Charalambous, Tax-News.com, Cyprus

10 April 2017

Jordan said it will impose a fine of between JOD100 (USD141) and JOD500 for taxpayers who do not submit their 2016 tax returns by the April 30 deadline.

It added that a fine of JOD4,000 a week will apply for any late payment of tax due.

The country said taxpayers could file returns through the Government's website and urged them "not to delay delivery of declarations to the end of the month to avoid congestion" and save "time and effort."

Jordan has a broader tax system than some of its Middle East neighbours, such as Saudi Arabia, where citizens do not have to pay income or corporation tax.
