Isle of Man's eIOM Initiative Attracts New Members, London

17 October 2001

The Isle of Man's e-commerce initiative,, is set to expand its membership. Three companies - Bank of Ireland Fsharp Ltd, the world's first offshore internet bank; Domicilium, a leading ISP and international offshore e-solutions business and PDMS, a leading software solutions provider will be joining eIOM, along with the Isle of Man Government's Department of E-Commerce.

Established in 1999, eIOM was the brand adopted by an advisory group formed to encourage Internet businesses to move to the Isle of Man. Its founder members were Cains, Deloitte & Touche, Manx Telecom and Skanco. The consultancy services offered cover all the key areas in which an Internet business locating to the Isle of Man would need guidance: law, accountancy, telecommunications and computing. The eIOM team has been able to give practical assistance with advice on initial business structure, web design, development, e-commerce and hosting.

"The Isle of Man is Europe's if not the world's leading centre for offshore e-commerce," said Ralf Ohlhausen, Manx Telecom's Director of Internet and Multimedia. "In the Internet World it is so much easier to profit from offshore advantages and we are proud that, as a subsidiary of BT, we can provide the same world-class and industry-strength services that one can get in London, Amsterdam or Paris."

The Isle of Man Government shares similar aims to eIOM in relation to the development of the Island and eIOM has lent its support to government at roadshows and conferences around the world. When joining eIOM, Tim Craine, the Isle of Man Director of E-Commerce commented: "The Isle of Man Government has a long history of working closely with the private sector on the Island and the decision to join the eIOM initiative is a further example of the excellent working relationship between Government and the business community. The Government has very similar aims to eIOM and I look forward to working with the other partners for the benefit of the Island as a whole."
