Irish Revenue Releases Property Tax Compliance Figures

by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

10 February 2015

The Irish Revenue has revealed that the compliance rate for the 2015 Local Property Tax (LPT) is currently 84 percent, with EUR123m (USD140.5m) in revenue collected.

Revenue is working through 28,000 items of LPT correspondence and aims to move on to 2015 LPT compliance activity by the end of February. In a statement, Revenue urged property owners who have not yet complied with their 2015 LPT obligations to make payment arrangements as soon as possible. The LPT compliance rates for 2013 and 2014 currently stand at 95 percent.

Since Revenue took over the collection of the Household Charge (an interim levy introduced ahead of full LPT implementation), approximately EUR41m in arrears has been paid, and 269,000 properties are now Household Charge compliant.

Approximately 282,000 compliance letters have been issued in respect of 2013 and 2014 LPT tax dues. Around 67,800 mandatory deductions from wages/pensions have been made or are in operation. Compliance activity in relation to self-employed persons and companies includes 14,000 tax clearance refusals, and 18,800 income tax and 100 corporation tax surcharges applied.

There have been 800 referrals to the Sheriff, while more than 7,300 valuations have been increased, arising from a combination of self-correction and Revenue challenges.
