Indonesia Promises Confidential Tax Amnesty Declarations

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

28 April 2016

Indonesia will preserve the confidentiality of information received from taxpayers under the proposed Tax Amnesty Bill, according to Finance Minister Bambang Brodjoengoro.

In a statement made on April 25, 2016, Brodjoengoro said that protecting the confidentiality of taxpayer information is the Government's top priority and will be an important factor in the success of the amnesty program.

The Minister also stressed that leaking taxpayer data obtained under the amnesty program may amount to a criminal offense.

In November 2015, it was confirmed that Indonesia will offer an amnesty this year - one of a number offered in recent years – to encourage taxpayers to regularize their tax affairs.
