Indian GST Rolled Out Nationwide, Including Jammu And Kashmir

The state of Jammu and Kashmir has adopted India's goods and services tax, seven days after it was rolled out across the rest of the nation.

In a statement released on July 8, the Ministry of Finance announced that: "The President of India has promulgated today two ordinances, namely, the Central Goods and Services Tax (Extension to Jammu and Kashmir) Ordinance, 2017 and the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (Extension to Jammu and Kashmir) Ordinance, 2017 extending the domain of Central GST Act and the Integrated GST Act to the State of Jammu and Kashmir, with effect from July 8, 2017. With this, the State of Jammu and Kashmir has become part of the GST regime, making GST truly a "one nation, one tax" regime."

GST has replaced the centrally levied CENVAT, the central excise duty, service tax, customs duties, and any related surcharges. The new regime also replaces the state-level levies VAT, sales taxes, entertainment and gambling taxes, the luxury tax, certain entry taxes, and related state surcharges.
