India Warns Of Fake Extension To Filing Deadline

28 September 2015

A spokesperson for India's Central Board of Direct Taxation has warned taxpayers of a fake order that is being circulated that says that the due date for filing the audit report for income reportable in the 2015-16 tax year has been extended.

According to the CBDT, the fake order, dated September 26, 2015, states that the deadline for filing the audit report has been extended, under section 119 of the Income Tax Act, to October 15, 2015. It is signed by "Upmanyu Reddy."

The CBDT spokesperson stated: "It is clarified the order is fraudulent. The Government has not extended the due date for [the] filing of returns and audit report due by September 30, 2015. Taxpayer[s] and practitioners are advised not to give any credence to the fraudulent order."
