India Tells Intelligence Agencies To Share Info

India's Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has been told to share information with other Government agencies.
According to Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, the Directorate has access to a "massive" amount of data, including a Permanent Account Number database and excise and service tax records. However, he fears that India's intelligence agencies have not yet learned to "speak to each other," and that the right staff are not necessarily in place to make the most of the information at hand.
Chidambaram has therefore urged the Directorate to take advantage of the latest technological innovations, both to gather and analyze data. The methods by which the Directorate recruits, trains, and deploys staff also look likely to be overhauled.
