HMRC Publishes Guide On Avoiding Phishing Scams

by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

12 January 2017

The UK tax agency has published a guide on how to avoid being caught out by scam emails and telephone calls.

HM Revenue and Customs's guide includes a list of email addresses typically used by scammers to phish for taxpayers' details and includes examples of bogus web pages and emails received and reported by taxpayers. The agency has urged taxpayers who suspect an email or text message is bogus to report it to HMRC.

HMRC said that it will never send notifications of a tax rebate or refund by email or ask people to disclose personal or payment information by email.
