Greece Extends Tax Return Deadline

by Ulrika Lomas, Tax-News.com, Brussels

29 June 2016

The Greek Ministry of Finance has announced a short extension to the tax return filing deadline for individuals and companies.

The deadline for the submission of tax returns for the 2015 tax year is June 30, 2016. However, in a statement released by the ministry on June 26, it was announced that the deadline has been pushed back to July 15, 2016, for individual and company taxpayers.

The Ministry warned that there would be no future extensions to the deadline and highlighted that fines will apply for late tax returns. These are EUR100 (USD111) for a taxpayer who is not required to keep books; EUR250 for taxpayers who keep books under simplified accounting standards; and EUR500 for taxpayers who keep books under full accounting standards. In addition, a monthly charge of 0.73 percent of the amount of tax payable is due on overdue tax returns.
