Ghana Launches e-Tax Portal

by Lorys Charalambous,, Cyprus

10 November 2014

To improve the country's tax collection system, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) formally launched its eTax Portal, during a ceremony on November 4, 2014 at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.

The Portal is intended to accelerate the modernization and automation of GRA's processes, so as to gather additional taxpayer data and, thereby, lead to raised tax compliance rates.

However, it was confirmed that eTax will initially be used to support the GRA's Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) re-registration campaign, through its online TIN Registration feature.

Additional functionality will be progressively rolled out during the rest of this fiscal year, eventually providing taxpayers with the ability to view their tax account, manage tax types, file tax returns, request exemptions, apply for tax refunds online, and make payments through the new Ghana ePayment Platform.
