GE Aviation To Power Textron's New Single-Engine Turboprop

by Mike Godfrey, Tax-News.com, Washington

26 November 2015

A newly developed turboprop engine, unveiled by GE Aviation on November 16, 2015, will be used by Textron Aviation Inc to power its new single-engine turboprop aircraft (SETP).

Textron Aviation's GE-powered SETP is expected to have a range of more than 1,500 nautical miles and speeds higher than 280 knots.

GE Aviation said that its 1,300 shaft horse power (SHP) engine can achieve up to 20 percent lower fuel burn and 10 percent higher cruise power than other engines in the same size class.

The engine also incorporates technology that extends the time between maintenance overhauls by up to 30 percent more than existing engines, it said.

GE expects to conduct the detailed design review (DDR) for the new turboprop engine in 2017 followed by the first full engine test in 2018.
