Flood-Hit Bangladesh Slashes Rice Import Duties

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

21 August 2017

Following further flash flooding, the Government of Bangladesh has announced that import duty on rice will be reduced to two percent.

Earlier this year, the rate was reduced to 10 percent from the 28 percent rate that had been put in place several years ago to protect local farmers.

An additional three percent duty was also scrapped in June 2017.
