The EU and Indonesia have concluded a fourth round of trade and investment negotiations.

The talks were held in Surakarta from February 19 to 23.

According to the European Commission, negotiating teams covered the full range of issues proposed to be covered in a new free trade agreement. These included: trade in goods, technical barriers to trade, services, investments, the investment court system, rules of origin, trade and sustainable development, intellectual property rights, and government procurement.

The Commission said that teams made progress on the chapters on food and plant health, technical barriers to trade, investment, and services.

A fifth round of negotiations will be held before the summer in Brussels.

Negotiations were launched in July 2016. Bilateral trade in goods between the EU and Indonesia was worth EUR25.3bn (USD31.2bn) in 2015. The EU is Indonesia's fourth largest trading partner.
