EU Extends Anti-Dumping Tariffs On Chinese Steel

by Ulrika Lomas, Tax-News.com, Brussels

The EU is to apply existing anti-dumping measures on Chinese imports of seamless pipes and tubes of stainless steel for another five years.

The duties, ranging from 48.3 percent to 71.9 percent, were imposed initially in 2011. A review into the tariffs began in December 2016 and concluded that dumping from China had continued and that if the measures were allowed to lapse, significant quantities of dumped Chinese exports might be directed to the EU market.

The EU now has 53 anti-dumping measures in place on steel and iron products, including 27 on products coming from China.

In February, the European Commission announced anti-dumping duties of between 17.2 percent and 27.9 percent on imports of Chinese corrosion resistant steel. It also imposed definite anti-dumping duties on iron castings from China.

Dumping occurs when goods are sold into a foreign market at below the prevailing market rate in the exporter's domestic market.
