Decision On Russian Airport Taxes Awaited

by Tatiana Smolenskaya, Tax-News.com, Moscow

12 July 2010

The Russian Finance Ministry, Ministry of Transport and the Federal Property Management Agency are expected to agree on new tax rates for air travel this week following a direct instruction from Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

At a meeting held by the Prime Minister on the construction and development of airports, Putin told the ministries that they must reconcile their differences by the end of this week, in order not to continue the burden on passengers.

There has been talk of introducing a bill in the Russian Duma to bring tax rates down to zero.
