Cook Islands To Host Pacific Internet Conference

The Cook Islands has won its bid to host the biggest regional annual information and communications technology (ICT) gathering, PacINET, next year.

The winner was decided in Honiara, Solomon Islands, by the annual meeting of the Pacific Islands Chapter of the Internet Society (PICISOC). The Cook Islands will host the conference in September 2008.

The Office of the Prime Minister, ICT Manager Maveni Kaufononga and International United Nations Volunteer, Hong Yi Ip is attending the meeting and submitted the bid that Prime Minister Jim Marurai has supported.

PacINET is a regional conference for practitioners, developers, researchers and those interested in ICT from all sectors to exchange information on system design, enabling technologies, and anecdotal experiences related to the use of ICT in the Pacific Islands.

In addition to the Cook Islands, the chapter covers the following countries and territories: American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Northern Marianas, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna.
