Colombia Announces Initiative To Tackle Tax Evaders

by Mike Godfrey, Tax-News.com, Washington

23 June 2017

Colombia's tax authorities are to launch a compliance drive, to ensure that companies, and in particular those engaged in international trade, are registered to collect and pay taxes.

Beginning on June 29, 2017, tax officials will undertake on-site visits to ensure that companies receiving goods from overseas are properly documenting their transactions, to tackle smuggling in particular, and that companies are registering for value-added tax.

Business who have failed to meet their tax obligations will be registered, due taxes assessed, and they will be warned about the tax authorities' powers to seize assets.
