China Hails Nation's First Aviation Biofuel

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

14 February 2014

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on February 12, 2014, approved the nation's first aviation biofuel, developed by Chinese oil company Sinopec.

Sinopec sought approval for its biofuel from the Administration in late February 2013, and a first test flight using the fuel succeeded in April 2013. During the twelve months since Sinopec's application, the CAAC carried out thorough tests on the fuel before granting China's first ever license, which permits the fuel's use on domestic commercial flights.

According to a Xinhua report, Sinopec is to seek foreign approvals, look to lower production costs, and further research and develop biofuel compositions.
