Chile To Ease Penalties, Interest For Paid Tax Debts

by Mike Godfrey, Tax-News.com, Washington

20 September 2019

Chile's Minister of Finance on September 17, 2019, announced the launch of a tax amnesty for businesses and individuals with outstanding tax debts, which will offer reduced penalties and interest.

The amnesty will be offered to all companies and individuals during the period October 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019, Finance Minister Felipe Larrain announced. It is to be offered to a total of 732,000 taxpayers who owe taxes, including 204,000 individual taxpayers.

For those settling their tax debts in one lump sum, fines and interest on an amount owing will be reduced by 85 percent, while penalties and interest will be reduced by 65 percent for those who agree to a payment plan, which could involve the repayment of the tax in up to 24 instalments.
