Caribbean OCTs Meet To Discuss EU Tax Initiative

by Amanda Banks, Tax-News.com, London

Cayman Net News revealed on Thursday that, prior to the Fourth Annual Overseas Territories Council in the UK, scheduled to be held on September 28 and 29, the heads of the United Kingdom's Caribbean Overseas Territories (OCTs) will be meeting this week to discuss common concerns and to decide upon the main issues to be presented to the UK.

Speaking to the local news service last week Leader of Government Business, the Hon. McKeeva Bush, revealed that there are three issues of direct relevance to Cayman that he would like to see discussed at the September meeting.

'The impact of the European Union's Tax Initiative on the Overseas Territories is a key discussion point,' he explained, adding that he would also like the issues of sustainable development, and the pending Constitutional reform to be discussed. Other topics thought to be on the agenda of all participating countries include immigration issues, and cooperation between the EU and the OCTs on a general level.

'With the input from our Caribbean constituents, I'm sure these issues will propagate much discussion on the need for viable policies and human rights for all,' he concluded.
