Canada's Minister of State of Foreign Affairs is visiting Guyana and the Dominican Republic in an effort to build on developing bilateral relationships. The visit is taking place from August 12-17. Diane Ablonczy will first visit Guyana, before travelling to Santo Domingo to attend the inauguration of President-elect Danilo Medina Sánchez.
During her trip, Ablonczy will meet with members of the Guyanan government to discuss bilateral relations and regional trade issues. She said of the visit, "Canada and Guyana have a strong bilateral relationship that is developing quickly, particularly in terms of investment in the natural resources sector. This visit is important because it builds upon our government’s efforts to increase economic opportunity and people-to-people ties with our neighbours in the Americas.”
Turning to the trip's leg in Domincan Republic, Ablonczy spoke of the country as a key partner in the Caribbean, particularly as Canada seeks to further strengthen ties with its hemispheric neighbours. “We have extensive trade, investment and tourism links with the Dominican Republic, and we look forward to expanding and deepening our bilateral relationship during President Medina’s term in office,” Ablonczy stressed.
