Canada, India Conclude Latest EPA Round

Canada and India have completed the latest round of negotiations toward a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (EPA).

The seventh round of talks took place in New Delhi and focused mostly on market access and related areas. According to a joint Canada-India study on the likely outcomes of a trade agreement, Canada's economy could benefit to the tune of CAD6bn (USD6.02bn). The Canadian Government says this equates to almost 40,000 new jobs across the country, or a CAD500 boost to the average family’s annual income.

Among the core sector opportunities in India identified by the Canadian Government are energy, agriculture, infrastructure and education.

Commenting on the negotiations, Canada's International Trade Minister Ed Fast said: "Our Government is committed to building on our already-strong ties with India to create a partnership that will lead to jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for workers in both our countries."

Canada is also in trade talks with the European Union, Japan and the countries that comprise the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
