British Airways Recruiting 800 New Pilots

British Airways has announced the launch of a new training scheme aimed at increasing its workforce of pilots by 800 within five years.

The airline plans to utilize three strategies to overcome the shortage of pilots expected in coming years: firstly the airline, through its Future Pilot Programme, will pay the GBP100,000 (USD163,000) training fees up front for those interested in becoming a pilot, aimed at removing the financial barriers to entry for promising pilots; secondly, military pilots wishing to enter commercial aviation will receive support; and BA plans to target pilots from competing airlines.

Explaining the Future Pilot Programme, Captain Robin Glover, head of pilot recruitment at British Airways, said:

“The Programme is a fantastic opportunity for anyone from any background to realise their ambition of becoming a pilot and flying for British Airways.”

“By removing the barrier of initial training costs and making it more accessible to a wider range of people, we hope to be able to attract the very best talent out there.”

“It is a really exciting time to join British Airways as we are giving our customers even more choice by adding new destinations to our network and introducing new aircraft to our fleet.”

“No other airline in the UK offers the opportunities that British Airways does for developing a career as a pilot.”

Currently British Airways employs 3,200 pilots.
