Brazil To Prioritize Income Tax Refunds For Teachers

by Mike Godfrey, Tax-News.com, Washington

31 October 2017

In a bid to improve the quality of education in Brazil by increasing the attractiveness of teaching as a career path, Brazil is to provide teachers with preferential tax treatment.

Law 13,498/17, which was enacted on October 26 and published in the Official Gazette on October 27, provides that the Government will expedite income tax refunds for teachers.

The law will be effective from January 1, 2018, and place teachers behind only elderly taxpayers in receiving refunds first under the personal income tax (IRPF) regime, as earlier provided for elderly persons in Law 10,741 of 2003.
