Bolivia Reports Increase In Tax Revenues

by Mike Godfrey, Tax-News.com, Washington

08 January 2015

Bolivia has reported that its increased revenue collections during the first eleven months of 2014 were partly due to enforcement efforts to improve taxpayer compliance rates.

Between January and November, 2014, revenue collections reached BOB46.34bn (USD6.7bn). This was nine percent more than in the same period in 2013, and four times the amount collected in 2005.

Bolivia's tax authority said that, during the reporting period, it took major steps to tackle tax evasion and fraud, including closing 2,864 non-compliant businesses.

The taxpayer base has increased substantially, with 434,855 registered taxpayers as at November 2014, a 10.4 percent increase from a year earlier, it said.

The Government took steps last year to improve the tax culture through various educational programs. It also adopted measures to make it easier for residents to pay their taxes.

Last, the tax authority said that it improved the administration of taxes by updating technology, decentralizing services, and improving taxpayer assistance.
