Bermuda based telecommunications company Global Crossing is set to mount a challenge to communications giants such as Qwest Communications International and MCI World Com using internet technology.
Global Crossing has recently completed
initial trials of its international network and plans to offer
internet telephony services using the "voice over IP" internet
protocol by early next year. The trials have focused on addressing
the ever-present problem of bandwidth restrictions using state
of the art fibre-optic networks powered by high-end routing devices
and will continue into the first quarter of 2000.
