Bermuda based telecommunications company Global Crossing is set to mount a challenge to communications giants such as Qwest Communications International and MCI World Com using internet technology.

Global Crossing has recently completed initial trials of its international network and plans to offer internet telephony services using the "voice over IP" internet protocol by early next year.
