On December 18, 2019, the Belgian Federal Public Finance Service (SPF) announced that start-up companies can request accelerated refunds of value-added tax credits from January 1, 2020.
According the SPF, the scheme is available for the first two years of a new company's economic activity and taxpayers will be automatically enrolled provided they submit monthly VAT declarations.
In order to take advantage of expedited refunds, taxpayers must file their monthly statements no later than the 20th of each month following the relevant reporting period. Taxpayers must also file their monthly declarations via the Intervat online portal.
